| School Transit Subsidy Program
Attention: fare increase, please see "WMATA Board Proposal for Fare Increase."
The School Transit Subsidy Program provides reduced fares for student travel on Metrorail and Metrobus. Students must meet the following eligibility qualifications:
- Students must reside in the District of Columbia;
- Be less than 19 years of age except in the case of children with disabilities to whom reduced fares shall be available for those students under 22 years of age;
- Be enrolled in an elementary or secondary public, private, charter or parochial school located within the District; and
- Need to use Metrobus and/or Metrorail for travel to and from school and to and from related educational activities in the District.
In order to purchase student monthly bus/rail passes or rail farecards from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), students must have a Student Travel Card issued by the District Department of Transportation/Mass Transit Division. This card can be obtained by completing a Student Metro Travel Card Application and have it signed and dated by the school principal or administrator. Blanks for the purchase of Metrobus school tokens can be obtained directly from the schools.
Parents or students must obtain the Student Metro Travel Card Application from the school in which the student attends. The parent or student must return a signed copy to the Mass Transit Division located at 2217 14th Street, NW, 2nd floor (14th and Florida Avenue, NW) between the hours of 8:15 am and 4:45 pm, Monday through Friday. If you have any questions, please call (202) 673-1740.
During the months of August through October, DDOT's Mass Transit Administration will be open on Wednesdays from 8:15 am to 7 pm.
